How To Install Deepin desktop environment on Ubuntu 13.04

Deepin is a Ubuntu-based distro for the Chinese and it is heavily modified to include plenty of useful stuff and rid of less useless/seldom used packages. After booting up Deepin, the first impression is that it is beautiful. The custom theme used is bright, elegant and refreshing.

Install Deepin desktop environment on Ubuntu 13.04

First you need to edit the sources.list file to add deepin sources files

sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list

Add the following lines

deb http://packages.linuxdeepin.com/deepin raring main non-free universe
deb-src http://packages.linuxdeepin.com/deepin raring main non-free universe

Save and exit the file

Now you need to import GPG key and install

wget http://packages.linuxdeepin.com/deepin/project/deepin-keyring.gpg
gpg --import deepin-keyring.gpg
sudo gpg --export --armor 209088E7 | sudo apt-key add -

Update the source list

sudo apt-get update

Install Linux Deepin desktop environment using the following command

sudo apt-get install dde-meta-core

The above command install all the core file for Linux Deepin desktop environment.

If you want to install Deepin Music Player, Software Center and Settings panel to the mix run the following command

sudo apt-get install python-deepin-gsettings deepin-music-player deepin-software-center
